INSPIRING NAVIGATORS OF THE FUTURE

ROAD TO RENAISSANCE
Hear from voices past and present who are inspiring and illuminating a new path for all to mālama honua (care for the earth).

WAYFINDING
A revival of the art and science of wayfinding is underway among the Pacific islands. In Hawai‘i, Nainoa Thompson studied under Mau Piailug, a master navigator from the island of Satawal in Micronesia, and worked with Will Kyselka at the Bishop Museum planetarium in Honolulu to develop modern methods and techniques of non-instrument navigation for traveling the open ocean over vast distances.
As the Moananuiākea Voyage progresses, stories about the genealogy of Hawaiʻi’s voyaging history and traditions will be shared alongside navigational lessons and activities, featured on , that can be explored by learners of all ages or integrated into the classroom.
