In our From the Archives series, excerpts from the journals, media, and historical records chronicling PVS’s rich history are revisited and augmented with updated learning resources for the Moananuiākea Voyage.

In February 2000, Hōkūleʻa crewmember Sam Low documents Nainoa Thompson reading the clouds over several days following Hōkūleʻa’s departure from Tahiti. Explore photos and descriptions from the sail to learn more about how Nainoa uses this knowledge as he navigates. A Hawaiian cloud chart is also included for reference.
